Department Overview

PERIODONTOLOGY is the branch of dentistry that encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of supporting tissues of the teeth and their artificial substitutes. 

The Department provides information about preventive medicine for the patients who present to us and therefore contributes to community oral health.The department is equipped with a good library, where students have access to the latest information available in the literature.

With separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections, we are well equipped with modern dental chairs and advanced surgical equipments.

Department Faculty

Dr. Jiji John

Professor and Head of Department

Dr. Jiji John MDS currently working as a Professor and HOD in the department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology of Malabar Dental College and Research centre , Edappal, kerala. He completed his BDS in the year 1997 from Buddha Institute of Dental Science & Hospital, Patna and MDS from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital, Chennai in 2003. He has an 19 years of experience as an academician and worked at different universities around India and expertise as a clinician in various Periodontal Surgeries as well as in Implants, Lasers, Microsurgeries and Piezo surgeries. 

He is a life member of Indian Society of Periodontology and Indian Society of Oral Implantologist.

 In the year of 2014 Sir was Awarded with the BEST PERIODONTIST OF THE YEAR by Indian Dental Achievers Awards.

He was Feliciated with IDA Award in 32nd UP State Dental conference in 2008 for conduction & contribution as a SCIENTIFIC CO- CHAIRMAN. He has numerous publications in National and International Journals. He worked as an HOD for more than 9 years and  has guided post graduate students. He has done extensive training in the field of Periodontal surgical designs as well as LASERS at JASLOK Hospital, Mumbai.

With separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections we are well equipped  with modern dental chairs and advanced surgical equipments

Department focuses exclusively with minimally invasive treatment with dental soft tissues lasers and peizosurgery units. Additional procedures like grafts, PRF, ridge split, bone augmentation and sinus lift are carried out.

It meets universal protocols of sterilization to safe guard our patients and dentists from cross contamination. It has  talented and efficient staff members who are committed to clinical training, working tremendously with students and are involved in various research activities

Clinical and research activities  under the guidance of experienced faculty has enabled students to opt for a career in both  research and academics.
