Department Overview

Department of Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge and Implantology at Malabar Dental College was established in 2007. The department is an abode for numerous rehabilitation cases which are performed by professionals with utmost skills and advanced procedures. We aim at steadfast delivery of updated knowledge through live demonstration and also providing supreme mentorship to guide the students with the use of sophisticated technology during the hands on clinical sessions.

Dr. Sapna Bhaskaran

Professor and Head of Department

Dr. Sapna Bhaskaran is an alumni of KLE’S Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum, Karnataka with 14 years of academic and clinical experience. She has served as resource person to national service scheme and has been part of several denture camps.She has several publications in international, national and state journals to her credit. Her main focus in Prosthodontics is to keep it simple and effective based on scientific evidences so that the students can make the best out of it.

Why Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge Department is Special ?

The Department is fully equipped with basic as well as advanced treatment modalities of Prosthodontics. Our department have 43 fully equipped dental chairs of which 34 are in the undergraduate clinic and 9 in the postgraduate clinic. Moreover this we have two preclinical laboratories which can occupy over 100 students and a well maintained phantom head lab with more than 50 simulation models. Also for fulfilling patients need at proper time we have a well equipped ceramic laboratory. In addition to this the department promotes research activities for enhanced learning. We have specialized centre for implantlogy with all modern facilities including RVG and implant kits of different systems. Currently many research activities are going on in the department and many future research projects are being proposed. Department organises professional development programs to upgrade the knowledge of faculty and students. The department focuses and gives equal importance to patient care, teaching methodologies and research activities.
