Department Overview

Oral Medicine is a branch of dental science which is at the interface between Medicine and Dentistry to promote optimal health to all.

Oral medicine and radiology department of Malabar dental college carry forward the legacy of “Smiles for All” and a department mission of “creating Smiles through Research and Compassion”. We mainly focus on diagnosis and medical management of diseases of oral mucosa, jaws, teeth and salivary glands, which includes oral manifestations of systemic disorders, medical management of facial and temporomandibular joint disorders, Orofacial pain, psychosomatic disorders , biopsy procedures for mucosal lesions, Habit counseling and tobacco cessation programme.

Department Facilities

The main facets of Department include Clinical care, Research-ICMR, Undergraduate & post graduate training, CBCT 3D Imaging, TMD Clinic, Dry mouth clinic, Early Oral Cancer Detection And Prevention, and Tobacco cessation clinic.

The department is provided with an extensive area of space for undergraduate and post graduate students. The department is equipped with contoured chairs with units and intra oal camera. Students are well trained under patient management software system. The department is equipped with an exclusive section of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology wing which houses extraoral skull units, digital intraoral periapical radiograph machine, digital panoramic machine, Intra oral periapical Machine, Radio Visual Graphy an innovative intra oral radiology simulation area and a dark room with all provisions. In the radiology department we have Planmeca Promax 3D max CBCT machine which is an extremely versatile device that offers detailed images of oral and maxillofacial region with dedicated protocols for adults and children.

The Undergraduate and Postgraduate students acquire skill of taking and interpretating various oral and skull radiographs, as well as other advanced imaging techniques that help them in making a definitive diagnosis. They achieve the necessary training to diagnose and treat patients under the supervision of academically and clinically competent faculty members. The Dept of Oral Medicine and radiology at the Malabar dental college is an academic centre in which education, research and patient care occurs simultaneously –each informing and improving other. The faculty and students are actively involved in various research activities. The department has many international and national publications to its credit. The scientific presentations from the department have been recognized and appreciated in various scientific meets. The Academic excellence of the students is reflected in several university ranks.

Dr Vineet Alex, has over 15 Years Of teaching Experience and holds Diplomate In Laser Science Degree From University Of Genova, Italy. He is an distinguished alumni of SIMATHS Saveetha university Chennai. He is actively Involved in Research Activities Regarding Oral Cancer and has Many National And International Indexed Publications. Dr.Vineet Alex has been a Resource Faculty In various International Conference And Webinars, a Highly Skilled And Trained Professional In Academic ,Clinical And Research Activities with excellent coordination with team members.

A hardworking, ambitious, academically and clinically top notch and with par to global progression in Dentistry. And is currently pursuing PhD in Saveetha dental college and hospital, Chennai. Areas of interest include oral cancer, research in current and advanced trends in dentistry and TMD.
