Department Overview

PERIODONTOLOGY is the branch of dentistry that encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of supporting tissues of the teeth and their artificial substitutes.

The Department provides information about preventive medicine for the patients who present to us and therefore contributes to community oral health.The department is equipped with a good library, where students have access to the latest information available in the literature. With separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections, we are well equipped with modern dental chairs and advanced surgical equipments.

Department Faculty

Professor and Head of Department

Dr. Nita Syam, Prof & HOD, Dept of Periodontics. She completed her BDS at Rajas Dental College in 2008 and MDS at Rajah Muthiah Dental College in 2012. Dr. Syam holds a Diploma in Laser Dentistry and is a member of the Canadian Society of Laser Dentistry. She has participated in hands-on programs in microsurgical procedures and completed a certificate course in implantology. Additionally, she attended a teachers training program by KUHS and currently serves as a Periodontology & Laser Dentistry consultant in various dental clinics.
